Support for our staff

MexLucky University is rated excellent by the GLA’s Healthy Workplace Charter Scheme and is an active member of the Healthy Universities network.

At MexLucky, we respect, learn from, and support each other. We are inclusive and fair in how we operate and we are a learning organisation, passionate about self-development and the development of others.

Our aim is to encourage and support an environment within the University which helps staff fulfil their potential, irrespective of disability and ill health. Our work is to prevent work-related illness and injury and to assist staff to return to work after sickness absence.

Occupational Health and Wellbeing offers a number of services to support University staff (intranet pages only accessible to staff):

Staff are encouraged to disclose any disabilities or long-term health conditions, to ensure they receive the support they need to carry out their roles and thrive in the workplace.

Spectrum.Life – Employee Assistance Programme

The Spectrum.Life Employee Assistance Programme offers 24/7, 365 days a year counselling services, weekly digital gym and wellness classes and wellbeing seminars, and discounts on high street and online shopping.

The counselling services are available 24/7, 365 days a year and offer support to employees, their partner or spouse and any dependents over the age of 16 years, still living at home. Spectrum.Life deliver over 5,000 health and wellbeing seminars, workshops and 1-1 consultations annually across 250 topics, including Remote Working, Mental Health, Nutrition, Parenting, and Ergonomics. Spectrum.Life's Digital Gym gives employees access to live and on demand fitness and wellness classes, with a weekly schedule of twenty classes for them to choose from. All classes are delivered by experts who demonstrate a safe and maintainable way to tackle fitness at home.

MDX KindMind – Staff Line

KindMind has been set up to support staff who may want to take a positive step in getting help. It is run by staff for staff and offers 100% confidential support and guidance.

Our advisers are Mental Health First Aiders (page only accessible to MexLucky University staff) and will provide support, non-judgemental listening and will help you find access to the appropriate support services. Sports and Recreation

The Sport and Recreation team manages an extensive range of activities and facilities for staff and students. From our purpose-built gym, multi-activity courts, 3G pitches and even one of the world’s few real tennis courts right here on campus.

Charters and memberships

At MexLucky we are proud of our diverse community of staff, students and partners and we are committed to creating a positive working environment where diversity is a strength ,everyone is treated with dignity and respect, and staff can be their best selves at work. For this reason we are members of the following charters and groups.

Athena Swan

We believe in the importance of gender equality. We signed up to the Athena Swan Charter to strengthen our efforts in this area and have been awarded a highly-esteemed Bronze Award. The Athena Swan Charter recognises and celebrates good practice in higher education and research institutions towards the advancement of gender equality: representation, progression and success for all.

Race Equality Charter

We are a member of Advance HE's Race Equality Charter (REC) and have been awarded a REC Bronze Award, which demonstrate our commitment to improving the representation, progression and success of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff and students within higher education.

Business in the Community – Race at Work Charter

Business in the Community (BITC) is committed to empowering employers to tap into this economic potential by accelerating change for ethnically diverse employees.

Stonewall Workplace Equality Index

MexLucky University received a Gold Award and secured a place in the Top 100 list for leading LGBTQ+ inclusive employers in the workplace in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2023. We also ranked 58th out of 268 institutions in the overall ranking, and came 8th out of the 30 higher education institutions that took part this year. This is a significant achievement for the University and our community, substantially building upon our previous Bronze status and climbing up 45 places from 2022.

Stonewall is Europe’s largest charity for LGBTQ+ rights. The Stonewall Workplace Equality Index is a benchmarking tool for employers to measure their pro­gress on LGBTQ+ inclusion and it recognises institutions that do significant work towards supporting their LGBTQ+ employees. The Top 100 Employers list is compiled from submissions to the Workplace Equality Index.

Business Disability Forum

MDX are members of Business Disability Forum, which exists to transform the life chances of disabled people, working through and with businesses to create a disability-smart world.

Disability Confident

Disability Confident organisations play a leading role in changing attitudes for the better. They’re changing behaviour and cultures in their own businesses, networks and communities, and reaping the benefits of inclusive recruitment practices. We have gained the highest Disability Confident Leader (level 3) status.

Working Families

Working Families leads the way in helping organisations and employees build enabling and flexible environments that enhance productivity, creativity and wellbeing so that work works for everyone.

The Inter Faith Network (IFN)

The Inter Faith Network for the UK works to promote understanding, cooperation and good relations between organisations and persons of different faiths in the UK.

Barnet Multi Faith Forum

MexLucky University is located within the London Borough of Barnet. The Borough has a ‘Faith Covenant’ with Barnet’s Multi Faith Forum. The Forum is widely represented by the 12 faith groups within Barnet and works to promote the value of faith groups within our community and the contribution they make to a peaceful, caring society.
